Our team

The heart of Kalm Kitchen

Our story begins with Jen & James Middlehurst, our founders, who set up Kalm Kitchen in 2008 to elevate event catering. It combined James’ passion and attention to detail in the kitchen with Jen’s equal creativity, care and thoughtfulness.

Back then it was Jen & James fulfilling events from their very busy domestic kitchen.

Now, we’re a team of planners, chefs, event managers, logistics, service and people experts with a network of the very best producers and suppliers.

These are, and always will be, the beating heart of Kalm.

Kalm Kitchen began with a spark of an idea between husband and wife, James and Jen Middlehurst.

James had been grasped by the catering bug whilst travelling and working in Australia. He signed up for training on his return and built up experience, creating amazing food for big events. Jen has brought her caring and creative spirit from her work as a maternity nurse. Even though they had different skills, they shared a vision: to build something special together. They took a bold step, moving from London to Guildford to set up their first kitchen.

At first, they focused on providing catering for corporate events. Then, they had the opportunity to cater their first wedding, and that’s when things really started to take off.

What has made Kalm Kitchen work so well is the blend of James’s attention to detail and his ability to deliver exceptional food, with Jen’s passion, people skills, and creative flair.

This is at the heart of Kalm Kitchen, which is now a team of around 30 people who love to exceed expectations and make every event truly memorable.

2008 Kalm Kitchen is born

Founded by Jen & James Middlehurst at their home in Guildford, undertaking their first wedding.

2009 We move out of home

The business moves out of a domestic setting into a small garage unit in Compton.

2010 Puttenham

We move to a commercial unit in Puttenham and start to build a full-time team.

2014 Millbridge Court

We become the exclusive catering partner at the newly-launched Millbridge Court in Frensham.

2016 Open our café

We open the Kalm Kitchen café in central Guildford

2018 We Are 10

We celebrate 10 years of Kalm Kitchen

2019 Café closure

We close the café to focus on large scale events and weddings. The unit is now the wonderful Tattam's Bar!

2022 Hello, Dan

We employed Dan Williams as our Head of Operations.

2023 Farnborough Airshow

A real highlight to run hospitality catering at scale at Farnborough Airshow.
