Millbridge Court Tasting Evening

What: Tasting Evening | When: 2nd October 2019 | Where: Millbridge Court

Millbridge Court Details Date Night

It was a seasonal spectacular for the latest tasting evening at Millbridge Court. This special date is for couples who are planning their wedding at this Frensham venue. It gives them a chance to gather plenty of creative inspiration and imagine how their special day will come to life. These entirely unique evenings happen throughout the year to showcase the versatility of Millbridge Court.

As part of the planning journey we were there to provide advice and get the creative ball rolling for our brides and groom. This includes all the important touches – such as flowers, food and photography. Meanwhile our couples are free to ask questions and get inspiration on how best to use the beautiful venue.

Creative collaborations

This time, we teamed up with the amazing team at Bubblegum balloons to create a breathtaking balloon installation. The balloon clouds tied all of the colours in beautifully and proves how a simple concept can conjure up something spectacular.

Gemma Milly used her talent to create gorgeous stationery which we used throughout the evening. Her elegant place cards created a lovely contrast with the autumnal-themed napkins and showed how colour palettes can weave a theme throughout your wedding day.

Hannah Berry created a vision in florals and brought in some incredible blooms to dress the space. From gorgeous table decorations to a stunning ceiling installation, her creative flair made everything come to life. Finally, our musician for the evening Thom Moorley infused the atmosphere with his acoustic music, which kept everyone entertained throughout the night.

Food and drink inspiration

For Kalm Kitchen, it’s a great opportunity to showcase what concepts are new on our menu. As well as demonstrate the new and imaginative ways we love to present them. For instance, our brand new Colonial Patisserie Bar is a new take on a much-loved dessert choice.

Also, alongside the Patisserie Bar was our new sharing dessert – Spiced orange and ginger Mille Feuille, a warming combination of seasonal flavours.

In addition, during the evening we served up a tasty selection of canapés. These included Smoked chicken and mango salad in mini filo baskets, Moroccan lamb curry on feta couscous, Crispy pork belly with spiced pineapple chutney and Mini potatoes stuffed with roasted artichokes, lemon and rocket.

Main course inspiration came in the form of our much-loved Mediterranean Platter. Plus there were Seared scallops served with Jerusalem artichoke puree and chorizo crumb and an intriguing dish of Textures of broccoli including puree, roasted and fresh with hazelnuts, blue cheese and sea buckthorn.

Millbridge Court Details Date Night

The evening was a great success and our couples left brimming with all kinds of new ideas how to make their wedding day extra special. Some of the feedback we had included:

“Yesterday evening was fantastic, and food was incredible!”
“Thank you for such a lovely evening the other night, we really enjoyed it and so so excited!”
“Thank you so much for having us last night. We both really enjoyed ourselves and left feeling very excited for the big day!”

Monochrome Minimalism

‘Colour schemes, along with venues are one of the first talking points when I meet with my gorgeous couples. In my opinion, you can’t go more classic than a monochrome minimalism scheme. It creates an effortlessly modern feel and when executed the right way, you have a timeless wedding to look back on for life.

The question is, ‘where do I start?’ Well, I firmly believe that with a team of suppliers who share the same vision, this monochromatic movement can come to life and be painted in front of your eyes.

Without further ado, here are some top tips to perfect the visual (and edible) elements for your big day…

Flowers

I had the pleasure of sitting down with the fabulous Hannah Berry Flowers to ask what our couples should be seeking to create this key look. Here is what she had to say:

“I love it when I am approached with a monochromatic theme. It is the perfect mix of muted tones and architectural chic. We are talking about sharp lines and grey, white and noir hues that combine beautifully. My advice would be to go for foliage such as twisted willow and florals like White Anemone that will really elevate the look. Working with props and stationery also complements the feel. I love it when everything pieces together”

Stationery & Styling

Place cards, menus, table plans and table names are a huge part of the styling of your wedding breakfast. What better way than to have this designed by Nats Paper Studio. Her Australian contemporary style and interior/fashion design elements breathe through her brand and she uses all of these routes to create a bespoke look for your big day. As a Kalm Kitchen bride, you can see the amazing photographs from her Monochrome wedding at Millbridge Court on her blog on Nats Paper Studio.

You could opt for pairing up your stationery with clean and modern cutlery, which will provide the wow factor. Equally, serving food on matching black matte crockery would also add to the stand-out vibe necessary for creating the look. Natalie’s flair saw her mixing up origami animals and stunning black and grey candles.

Balloons

Balloon styling has completely ‘blown up’ ( if you pardon the pun) and really gives a theatrical edge to your big day. Bubblegum Balloons have created some amazing pieces of work using their Monochrome Balloon installations. They have an amazing eye for creating a pool of balloons flowing from key features of your venue. For me, it is a work of art!

Venues

A blank canvas gives you the freedom to play around with all your ideas. Here are two venues that are minimalist heaven:

Olivia Burton launch

Who: Olivia Burton Boutique | When: September 2018 | Where: Covent Garden

Olivia Burton launch

We loved teaming up with Olivia Burton for the launch of its new boutique in Covent Garden. This super-cute accessories brand – known for stylish watches and covetable jewellery – threw a ‘Dream Garden’ themed party to celebrate the opening of its London-based flagship store. Packed with press and social media influencers, guests were greeted with a swinging bench, festooned with pastel-coloured blooms imagined by the talented Rebecca Avery. In fact, there was no shortage of Instagram-worthy spots just waiting to be snapped.

Inside was a flower-filled dream, so we echoed this theme with a selection of botanical canapés and stunning desserts. Pete at Kalm Kitchen worked hard alongside Rachel Martin, Head of Global PR at Olivia Burton to design the concepts. Inside the Dream Garden a range of cocktails was served up, including Bergamot & Lemongrass Gin Collins, plus Blueberry & Elderflower Rocks. We paired these delightful drinks with platters of divine-looking canapés, specially created for the day including:

Wildflower and baby slaw rice baby rolls
Avocado puree on polenta toast with fresh pomegranate and chervil
Cherver Goats cheese on poppy seed fisselle with borage flowers, nasturtium and baby radish
Parmesan pastry with basil and sun blush tomato mascarpone and rosemary crisp
Pink roasted loin of lamb on a poppy seed ficelle with rosemary cream and redcurrant
Beetroot cured salmon on horseradish blinis with sweet dill and mustard sauce

Olivia Burton launch

Downstairs in the newly launched boutique, Olivia Burton’s beautiful wares were on show for everyone to see. And our Patisserie Bar – laden with sparkling elderflower jelly with basil & wild flowers; lemon trifle served with a cake pop and raspberry mousse with wild flowers glass – was getting its own share of attention too. We presented these botanical delights on a perspex bar accessorised with lush, blush pinks and pastels.

The team at Olivia Burton told us they were thrilled with the event, feeding bak with the following praise… ‘I just wanted to thank you for last night- everything went perfectly and everyone was so impressed. I thought that the canapés, drinks and service were all brilliant. Thanks so much Pete for a smooth set up too!’

Nuts about doughnuts

‘Mmmm doughnuts!’ We were excited to introduce a ‘doughnut wall’ to the Kalm Kitchen repertoire last year. And The Guardian has just tipped this delicious dessert craze as a trend to watch in 2019. Now, we’ve teamed up with local baking legend Jack Sturgess – AKA ‘Bake with Jack’ – to elevate this tasty favourite to a whole (or should we say hole) new level! Jack has been working on some new flavour combinations for us, as well as coming up with some novel variations of this sweet confection.

We love working with Jack, and it seems the feeling is mutual. ‘This is a dream project for me, ‘ he admits. ‘I mean, I love doughnuts, and I’m desperate to go to a wedding where there’s a doughnut wall!’ So, can Jack sum up the secret to a perfect doughnut? ‘Because they’re cooked so quickly, it’s really important that the dough is as light as possible. If it’s too dense it won’t cook all the way through, so we need to keep it light with the ideal ratio of butter and eggs.’

As well as experimenting with imaginative flavour combinations based on some of your favourite desserts, we also challenged Jack to come up with a vegan version. ‘All I’ll say is that apple puree instead of egg in a vegan doughnut is a total game changer,’ he confides. We can’t wait for you to taste the results!

Thinking about a doughnut wall at your wedding? Talk to us about this and other innovative ideas for your wedding at info@kalmkitchen.co.uk or call us on 01483 813360.
